Hello and welcome! I’m Dr. Kenya L. King, PhD, Licensed Clinical Psychologist and founder of Aya Psychological Wellness Services LLC, located in the Carrollwood neighborhood of Tampa FL.
If you’re reading this, you may looking for a therapist for yourself or a loved one. I’d like to share a bit about who I am, how I work, and what you can expect from therapy with me.
Who Am I
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 16 years of experience helping adults, teens, children, and families lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. My professional background includes attainment of a Masters and PhD in Psychology - Clinical Focus from Virginia Tech; appointments as Clinical Supervisor of the Child and Adult Psychological Assessment Team in the Psychology graduate degree program at University of South Florida (USF) and Acting Director of the Behavioral Health Baccalaureate Degree program at USF. As a Black female, a mother, a divorcee, small business owner, someone raised in Caribbean culture - raised in New York and trained in rural Blacksburg Virgina, I understand the importance of culturally-sensitive, affirming care for all persons across the lifespan. Professionally, I am especially passionate about 1) helping those who may not have seen themselves reflected in the mental health field, 2) helping those who are ready to make meaningful and powerful changes in their life and mental health, 3) providing high quality care that is deliberate, intentional, and dignified.
My Approach
I view therapy as a collaborative journey. My style is warm, down-to-earth, and deeply compassionate. It's not all fluff however, I'm trained in the scientist-practitioner model. Therefore evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed techniques, are integrated into each session, which is always tailored to your unique needs. I believe in meeting you where you are, honoring your process, and working together to help you build the life you want.
I offer both in-person sessions in my Tampa office and virtual appointments for clients across Florida. I even offer a limited number of in-home therapy sessions. This flexibility means you can access support in the way that feels best for you.
I also provide comprehensive psychodiagnostic evaluations for ADHD, learning disabilities, autism, and other mental health conditions as requested/needed.
Who I Help
Some of my specialties include trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I also have a strong background in supporting Black, Indigenous, and Caribbean communities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and anyone navigating issues related to identity or inclusion.
Whether you’re facing a difficult season, feeling stuck or overwhelmed, or looking to explore personal growth, I strive to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard and empowered and shift towards actionable change.
